About GGH
What to expect
If you've never hiked with a group of strangers before, here's exactly how a Girls Gone Hiking day goes — start to finish, no surprises.
Step 1
You claim a spot
Every hike has a set number of places. You create your free account, sign the one-time waiver, and claim a spot. If the hike is full you go on the waitlist and we email you the moment someone drops.
Step 2
You get the details
A few days out, your hike lead shares the meeting point, start time, drive time, parking notes and a packing list. Local hikes are always free.
Step 3
You show up nervous — that's normal
Almost everyone comes to their first hike alone. We start with names, the plan for the day, and the pace. Nobody has to prove anything.
Step 4
We hike at conversation pace
Beginner hikes move slowly with regular regroups. Intermediate hikes are longer and steeper but still stop for everyone. The lead sets a turnaround time and we honour it.
Step 5
Nobody hikes alone
There is always someone at the back. If you need to turn around, you tell your lead and we make a plan — you will never be left to sort it out by yourself.
Step 6
The trail doesn't end at the trailhead
Most groups get coffee or breakfast after. The chapter chat keeps going all week, and that's where a lot of the friendships actually happen.
Pack list
What to bring
- Two litres of water, more in summer heat
- Trail shoes or hiking boots you've walked in before
- Snacks with salt and sugar — more than you think you need
- Layers: it's colder and windier on ridges than in the car park
- Sun hat, sunscreen and lip balm
- A headlamp for anything starting early or finishing late
- Any personal medication, including an inhaler or EpiPen
Not sure which level
Start where you are
Beginner hikes are shorter, flatter and slower, and are genuinely built for a first time out. Intermediate hikes add distance, elevation and uneven ground. Take the quiz if you'd rather have it decided for you.
